The advantages of satellite TV in 2009
In 2009 analog television will go off the air and all of the popular shows of today will be canceled—at least from the perspective of the non-subscribing viewer. Cable audiences and satellite TV audiences have nothing to worry about, as they have already made the big switch to digital format. Now as you stand ready to kiss the 2000-decade goodbye you may be faced with one perplexing question: should you order satellite TV or cable? Based on a few innovative features, satellite TV is the clear choice.
Satellite TV is premium television made possible by communications satellites. This is in contrast to not only conventional analog television but also cable television, which broadcasts content by ground cables. Most satellite TV providers offer upwards of 250 channels, including major networks (it is a common misconception that satellite TV cannot get network channels) basic channels (such as USA, Comedy Central, Spike) as well as premium movie channels (like HBO and Showtime). However, in recent years, and in an effort to compete with cable providers, satellite TV has started offering additional packages beyond the most coveted channels. For instance, Direct TV, one of the largest providers of satellite TV in America offers an NFL on-demand package, which lets viewers view all major games, watch several games on one screen, or even watch highlights of games on their laptop or cell phone. There are similar features for all major sports leagues like Major League Baseball, the National Basketball Association and the National Association for Stock Car Auto Racing.
Satellite TV promises its viewers better quality content, not just in a reduction of noise or downtime, but also thanks to its HD channels, which broadcasts series and movies in higher resolution. Satellite TV is clearly the choice for viewers who want and have it all—all of the best channels broadcast on the most expensive LCD wide screen display. Satellite TV has also contributed to its own success by creating edgy content exclusively for its viewers. These include sports packages, original drama series, comedy series and even network series that premiere literally months earlier on satellite-only channels than they would on cable.
Like any cable package, satellite TV offers a great variety of adult programming and parental control features. Satellite TV carries all premium and uncensored channels like HBO, Showtime, Starz and Cinemax, as well as adults-only networks like Playboy or Hustler TV. (Besides Playboy, all the other adult channels are available per “block”, not by subscription) Lastly, satellite TV offers the latest PPV movies that are just hitting the DVD shelves in retail stores. Why pay a rental store to see Hellboy II once for $5.95 when you can buy it on Pay Per View and keep it as long as you want?
Other popular feature of satellite TV is the DVR system, which allows users to rewind their movies instantly as they watch them, record any and all shows, and even pause live television. 2009 may be remembered as the death of analog broadcasting, but it is a great opportunity to improve and expand your viewing experience.
